Sediment Pre-Filters in Des Plaines, IL

Sediment Pre-Filters in Des Plaines, IL

A sediment pre-filter is the first stage in most water filtration system installation jobs. It catches sand, rust flakes and pipe scale before they reach the carbon or specialty media. Without one, a carbon bed can clog early and lose flow.

Des Plaines, IL Whole House Water Filtration installs sediment filters in Des Plaines, IL homes in a few formats:

• Standard 4.5 x 20 inch big blue housings with pleated or spun cartridges
• Spin-down screen filters with a flush valve at the bottom
• Backwashing sediment tanks for heavy particle loads

Micron rating is the key choice. A 5 micron cartridge catches fine silt but loads up fast on dirty water. A 20 or 50 micron screen ahead of it takes the heavy grit first. Stacking two stages this way usually stretches cartridge life a lot.

You will know a pre-filter is overdue when the cartridge turns dark brown and the pressure gauge drop climbs. We show you how to read the gauge and how to change the cartridge yourself if you want to.
